Overview
Networlding partnered with author Diane Hopkins to publish Unleashing the Chief Moment Officer™, a customer experience leadership book. I was hired as a solo designer to manage the complete design and production of the digital ePub and physical book formats, from initial file preparation to final publication assets.
My Role
Full End-to-End Creative Ownership
✔ Structured and designed the ePub layout from scratch
✔ Built a fully clickable Table of Contents for effortless navigation
✔ Ensured use of page progress indicators — aligning with visibility of system status
✔ Enabled reader preferences including adjustable font sizes, bookmarking, search functionality, and return navigation
✔ Communicated closely with the author to gather content elements (e.g., professional headshot, author bio)
✔ Iterated through multiple revision rounds to refine layout, flow, and hierarchy
✔ Designed dust jacket, hardback, and softcover cover treatments for print versions
✔ Exported, tested, and packaged final files using tools such as eCan Crusher for ePub compression and validation
The Process
We aligned on creating a polished digital reading experience that was professional, easy to navigate, and aligned with leadership credibility. I explored different typographic hierarchies, page breaks, and navigational models to ensure seamless scanning. I designed the full ePub structure, created a clickable Table of Contents, ensured progress indicators, font resizing, and support for bookmarking and search. After multiple rounds of revisions with the author, including layout refinements and content flow adjustments, we finalized both the digital version and cover designs for hardcover, softcover, and dust jacket printing.
